چکیده

We describe the spectral energy distributions (SEDs) of Lyman Break Galaxies (LBGs) at z∼3 using deep mid-infrared and optical observations of the Extended Groth Strip, obtained with IRAC and MIPS on board Spitzer and from the ground, respectively. We focus on LBGs with detections at all four IRAC bands, in particular the 26 galaxies with IRAC 8 μm band (rest–frame K-band) detections. We use stellar population synthesis models and probe the stellar content of these galaxies. Based on best–fit continuous star-formation models we derive estimates of the stellar mass for these LBGs. As in previous studies, we find that a fraction of LBGs have very red colors and large estimated stellar masses (M∗ > 5× 10 10 M⊙): the present Spitzer data allow us, for the first time, to study these massive LBGs in detail. We discuss the link between these LBGs and submm-luminous galaxies. We find that the number density of these massive LBGs at high redshift is higher than predicted by current semi-analytic models of galaxy evolution. Spitzer View of Lyman Break Galaxies

Using a combination of deep MID-IR observations obtained by IRAC, MIPS and IRS on board Spitzer we investigate the MID-IR properties of Lyman Break Galaxies (LBGs) at z∼3, establish a better understanding of their nature and attempt a complete characterisation of the population. With deep mid-infrared and optical observations of ∼1000 LBGs covered by IRAC/MIPS and from the ground respectively, ...

Rest-frame Mid-infrared Detection of an Extremely Luminous Lyman Break Galaxy with the Spitzer Infrared Spectrograph (irs)

We present the first rest-frame 4 m detection of a Lyman break galaxy. The data were obtained using the 16 m imaging capability of the Spitzer Infrared Spectrograph. The target object, J134026.44+634433.2, is an extremely luminous Lyman break galaxy at z 1⁄4 2:79, first identified in Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) spectra (as reported by Bentz et al.). The source is strongly detected with a fl...

Massive Lyman Break Galaxies at Z ∼ 3 in the Spitzer Extragalactic First Look Survey

We investigate the properties of 1088 Lyman Break Galaxies (LBGs) at z ∼ 3 selected from a ∼ 2.63 deg2 sub-region of the First Look Survey field using the ground-based multi-color data and the Spitzer Space Telescope mid-infrared data at 3–8 and 24 μm. With the wide area and the broad wavelength coverage, we sample a large number of “rare” u-band dropouts which are massive (M∗ > 10M⊙), allowing...

As part of the In-Orbit Checkout activities for the Spitzer Space Telescope, the IRAC team carried out a deep observation (average integration time ∼ 8 hours) of a field surrounding the bright QSO HS 1700+6416. This field contains several hundred z ∼ 3 Lyman-break galaxy candidates, and we report here on their mid-infrared properties, including the IRAC detection rate, flux densities and colors...

On the Stellar Masses of IRAC detected Lyman Break Galaxies at z ∼ 3

We present results of a large survey of the mid–IR properties of 248 Lyman Break Galaxies with confirmed spectroscopic redshift using deep Spitzer/IRAC observations in six cosmological fields. By combining the new mid–IR photometry with optical and near-infrared observations we model the Spectral Energy Distributions (SEDs) employing a revised version of the Bruzual and Charlot synthesis popula...
